The small market town of Holsworthy which was first settled in Saxon times and is mentioned in the Domesday Book, is less than three miles away. In addition to the weekly cattle and pannier market and monthly furniture auction, Holsworthy has several major fairs throughout the year. The Cornish resort of Bude is 20 minutes drive away and is well known for its annual Jazz Festival.
